New Years’ Resolutions for the Weak-Willed

It seems like every year I make a resolution or two. Like many of you, sometimes they last all year, but most of the time they make it a couple of weeks.

Here’s the problem. It’s not that you don’t have will power, it’s just that you’re picking resolutions that are too hard and not very much fun at all. So you want to drink less, lose weight, get out of credit card debt, and spend more time with your kids. But unfortunately spending time with your kids can be expensive, which causes you to use the credit cards more often, taking them out to eat which makes you gain weight, and then after dinner out with your kids you need a drink (or two).

Seriously, it’s mid-January and you’ve already screwed yourself for the year.

I’m taking a different strategy. My resolutions are going to be awesome. They’re going to be fun and easy to keep.

Welcome the Year of Happiness I’m declaring 2013 the Year of Happiness. Here’s how I plan to do it.

Square Chocolate Cupcakes with Cream Filling

My cousin does a blog where every Friday he hosts Food Friday.  He's a great cook, and documents everything he does with great detail.  It inspired me, but only a little, so here's my recipe for Square Chocolate Cupcakes with Cream Filling, a couple of pics from a cell phone, and it's Thursday morning... close enough.

I bought my wife this cool Square Brownie Pan from Pampered Chef.  Her aunt sells Pampered Chef (she's actually one of the top national salespeople) so I got Kristen a couple things for Christmas.  I might do other food posts in the future, but then again, I might just eat the food and forget the blog.

If you're interested in picking up the Square Brownie Pan, it's 19 bucks.  Considering the price of most Pampered Chef items, it's one of the best values.  If you don't have a local rep, you can buy it through Cindy Inch.  The link I provided above gives her a commission.  (Of which, I'm sure I get nothing.)

Step One:  Buy yourself a brow…

Gun Control and Mental Health, Too Hot to Touch

I've been asked by several people about my opinions related to the topics of gun control and mental health services in light of the tragedy at Sandy Hook elementary school in Connecticut.

Below is one such e-mail, and my response.
Gary Scholtes wrote: "I like your blog... ...from reading it, I gather that you're an intellectual person who likes to exercise his brain. I like to do the same, and I like to gather various opinions, whether I agree with them or not. I would like to ask your take on a current hot issue, Gun Control. I won't even take it amiss if you abstain." Jason Tweed writes: "Thanks Gary. I'm actually writing about gun issues and 2nd amendment issues currently. I'm waiting a bit to publish my thoughts because I try to avoid hot button topics during volatile times. Sandy Hook has made us all hypersensitive to several issues. These times play well to agenda politicking but not to insightful decision making. I will publish my thoughts on …
