Here's a gradually growing list I've compiled of
useful websites, funny websites, cool websites and a few just
plain weird.
| |
SunFyre Exclusive Pages |
 |
Death Penalty - My Opinion on Capital Punishment
- I created this page subsequent to a blog entry about the Washington Sniper
verdict. It got so much attention I created a stand-alone page.
Whether you have a strong opinion about the death penalty or not, it's worth the
read in my humble opinion. |
 |
Hurricane
Isabel Photos - I collected a bunch of photos from Hurricane Isabel.
My sister was out of power for 10 days following the storm. She lived in
Richmond VA. This photo page includes a dozen or so original photos taken
by my sister and about 100 photos from other readers and journalists. |
 |
I
Like Monkeys - The pet store
was selling them for five cents a piece. I thought that odd since they were
normally a couple thousand each. I decided not to look a gift horse in the
mouth. I bought 200. I like monkeys.... |
 |
Kids
Who Look Like Their Dogs - A bunch of photos of children who look like
their pets. |
 |
New
State Mottos - Have you ever noticed that most state mottos are
stupid? Well, we have obtained the new unofficial mottos for every
state. Remember, SunFyre is an equal opportunity offender. |
 |
Telemarketer Revenge - Ten things you can say when telemarketers call.
The goal is to get them to quit their jobs, or commit suicide, either is
acceptable. |
 |
True
Lies - A collection of complete lies I made up myself. Send them to
your friends and link them to the page confessing the truth. |
 |
User
License Agreement for panda@sunfyre.com
- This User License Agreement will be enforced against spammers and the
like. Please read the agreement prior to emailing my cat, Panda. |
| |
|
| |
Artistic |
 |
AllPosters
- A terrific shopping site for posters and prints. They have a huge
selection of sports, dorm room, and fine arts posters. I've ordered one
time from them and was extremely satisfied. |
 |
Text-Image
- This is a cool site for would-be ASCII artists. You can upload any photo
and each pixel is converted to a letter or numeric character. By changing
the color of each character you produce a picture made exclusively of colored
text. I made these using pictures of Jason
and Ainsley. It takes a little
practice. Try photos with lots of contrast and use fairly small images. |
| |
|
| |
Celebrities |
 |
Britney
Does Anna - According to this site, a sneaky hotel worker saw Britney
Spears and Anna Kournikova playing tennis. He called his buddy with a video
camera. His buddy convinced him to get him inside Britney's room with the pass
key. The buddy got more than he expected, Anna comes back to the room for a
little sweet lesbian love. Adult Content |
 |
Britney
Spears - The official site for "all things Britney". Let's
see, about six photos, about five 10-line news stories all pushing her new
record. A section from someone named Lynne, two wallpapers and six buddy
icons. If that's "all things Britney" she's a little
lacking. I am more curious which was more expensive, her breasts or teeth. |
 |
Carmen
Electra's Aerobic Striptease - Carmen Electra finally has an exercise video,
of sorts. Actually it's several videos teaching you how to exercise by
mimicking strippers. If anyone wants to buy it for Kristie, I'm ok with
that, really. The site contains several video clips and desktop wallpapers. |
 |
Swingin'
Chicks of the '60s - A great site with hundreds of
biographies of cool women of the '60s. Lots of content. |
 |
Stevie
Wonder - This is his official site. I honestly
didn't venture much past the entrance, but it looks good and looks like it's got
plenty of content, at first glance. (No pun intended.) |
| |
|
| |
Computers and
Internet |
 |
Dell - These are my favorite off-the-shelf
computers. They always have good package deals on
home systems. |
  |
STOPzilla - A pop-up blocker that actually works. |
 |
Tech Depot - This new online store is a branch of
Office Depot. I like them because they carry lots
of components. My biggest frustration with Circuit
City or Best Buy is that they carry lots of big stuff,
but no variety of accessories. (Best Buy had
one USB cable, 10-ft. for $29.95. Tech Depot has
12, different lengths, starting at $4.95.) |
| |
|
| |
Disability Resources |
 |
American
Wheelchair Bowling Association - The official web site of the AWBA. It
looks like the last update was in February 2003, but I think the organization is
still active. |
 |
Dwarfism.org
- A vast collection of information for "little
people". |
 |
Zinio - This site allows you to subscribe to
digitally, with the same layout, text, advertisements,
etc as the print versions. It's great for people
with mobility impairments. Whether you have
difficult turning magazine pages, or simply don't get to
the newsstand often. |
| |
|
| |
Games |
 |
Balls
'n' Walls - A unique game that combines science
fiction, medieval catapults, and volleyball. You have to play this one to
understand, and you have to play it several times to get any good. |
 |
Catch
a Fly with Chopsticks - Not as hard as it
sounds. Mr. Miyagi would be proud.
|
|
 |
 The Flash
Zone - A collection of flash games updated about once
every other week. He used to have about 100 games,
but far fewer now. Adult
Content, Nudity. |
 |
Orisinal
- Over 40 games from and incredibly talented designer and
artist. These games are unique and extremely friendly. Great games
for kids and adults alike. |
 |
Pheasant
Hunter - A fun little Java script game. I only mention it because it
reminds me of Nintendo's Duck Hunt for those of us over 25. Shoot the
pheasants, but not the chickens. Don't shoot your trusty bird dog
either. Pop-up Warning. |
 |
Playboy
Strip Poker - Finally you can play strip poker with a playmate, Jami
Ferrell, Miss January 1997 to be exact. Adult
Content, Nudity.
|
| |
 Sexy
Games - Twelve sexy Flash Games. |
 |
Supreme
Golf - A pretty good web golf game. Eighteen
holes of flash fun. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
Humorous |
 |
Bill
Clinton Jokes - Quite an impressive collection of
jokes about Former President Clinton, and a few about future President (Hillary)
Clinton. Pop-up Warning |
 |
Boobies
or Butt? - Do you know your cleavage? This little multiple choice test
gives you a 50/50 chance. I'd rate it PG-13 but it might not be
appropriate for the office or middle school library. |
 |
Dancing
Elmo - You can make Elmo dance. Hours of fun, well
minutes of fun at least. |
 |
Drink-O-Meter
- This extremely useful calculator will give you extremely scientific data about
the amount of alcohol you've consumed in your life. How many
bathtubs? Could you buy a Ferrari? |
 |
New
State Mottos - Have you ever noticed that most state mottos are
stupid? Well, we have obtained the new unofficial mottos for every
state. Remember, SunFyre is an equal opportunity offender. |
 |
Online
Orgasmic Simulation - Have you ever wondered what it's like to orgasm as
someone of the opposite sex? This simulation is low on visual appeal but
surprisingly accurate. |
 |
Primate Programming Inc:
The Evolution of Java and .NET Training - A hilarious
parody site. Over 97% of human and ape DNA is common between the two
species. Apparently, that 97% is exactly the right DNA for programming in
Visual Basic and several other languages. You too can get top quality
programming for peanuts (or bananas at least). |
 |
SunFyre's
Telemarketer Revenge - Ten things you can say when telemarketers call.
The goal is to get them to quit their jobs, or commit suicide, either is
acceptable. |
| |
Magazines |
 |
Playboy
- The official site of Playboy magazine. They feature an online addition
and a store for Playboy merchandise. |
 |
Zinio - This site allows you to subscribe to
digitally, with the same layout, text, advertisements,
etc as the print versions. |
| |
|
| |
Movies |
 |
Adult
Video News - AVN is the trade journal for the adult video industry. If
you are really into your Porn, this is a must read. It features reviews and news
about new releases. Adult Content |
 |
IMDb
- The Internet Movie Database is an extensive database of
movies, actors, directors etc.. It's owned by Amazon, and has a
professional version that provides contact information for the stars. It
doesn't indicate how much the professional version costs, but if you have to
ask, you probably can't afford it. |
 |
The
Matrix - The official web site for The Matrix
series. Some cool stuff, but a little tricky to navigate. I actually
enjoyed the low bandwidth option more. |
 |
Mr.
Skin - (Sunfyre reader review) This
site shows movie still shots of celebrities showing some skin. If one of your
favorite actors or actresses has ever, at any time, even for a millisecond,
shown anything from a quick flash of a nip to full nudity, it will be here. Mr.
Skin does a weekly preview of "skin moments" on newly released movies
on "The Howard Stern Show" and "Don and Mike", both
nationally syndicated radio shows. The site does have a membership fee of $29.95,
but it is worth every penny. Adult Content |
| |
|
| |
Parenting |
  |
Baby Outlet -
This place was great when our twins were first born.
Stuff we needed could be delivered, and people ordered
gifts for us. |
  |
Babystyle - A great site for baby's clothing and
gear. They also have maternity clothing. A
little pricey, but completely original stuff. |
 |
Standard Deviants - This site sells lessons in a
huge variety of subjects on DVD, VHS, and CD-ROM.
It focuses on Middle School, High School, and college
students. Probably a great source for home
schooling parents or kids needing extra tutoring. |
|
|
|
 |
Pets and
Animal Links |
  |
1-800-Petmeds - I use these
guys to get my cats' medicine. I just wish I could
remember to give the medicine to the cats. |
  |
Your Active Pet - Well, I've seen every website
possible! This site sells outdoor adventure gear
for dogs. |
| |
|
| |
Shopping |
  |
1-800-Petmeds - I use these
guys to get my cats' medicine. I just wish I could
remember to give the medicine to the cats. |
 |
AllPosters
- A terrific shopping site for posters and prints. They have a huge
selection of sports, dorm room, and fine arts posters. I've ordered one
time from them and was extremely satisfied. |
 |
 Amazon
- In my opinion, the best shopping on the web period. I first used Amazon
in 1996. I ordered an obscure book title that I couldn't find in any
bookstore locally. I had it in three days. Since then I've probably
ordered from them 100 times without a single problem. Most orders are
delivered by first class mail, in three days. |
  |
Baby Outlet -
This place was great when our twins were first born.
Stuff we needed could be delivered, and people ordered
gifts for us. |
  |
Babystyle - A great site for baby's clothing and
gear. They also have maternity clothing. A
little pricey, but completely original stuff. |
  |
Beverage
Bistro - This site delivers rare beers, gourmet coffee, and wine. |
  |
Buy.com - One of the oldest Internet shopping sites,
they are also one of the biggest. Probably my
second favorite department store style site online after
Amazon. |
  |
Cambridge SoundWorks - A great selection of
medium-to-high-end audio and video equipment. |
 |
Collections Etc. - Are you in need of dust
collectors? Perhaps something unique for Grandma's
birthday! |
  |
Colorful Images - Personalized address labels,
checks, and gift items. |
 |
International
Jock - Whether you need new underwear, or just enjoy looking at guys in
their underwear, visit this site. They've got everything, even a few
things I never knew existed. Rubber thongs??
|
 |
Keg
Works - Keg Works is your resource for everything beer related except
beer. They sell great stuff for commercial and home bars. You can
get everything you need except a fat guy named "Norm". |
 |
Playboy
Store - An online store for Playboy magazine merchandise. |
 |
Standard Deviants - This site sells lessons in a
huge variety of subjects on DVD, VHS, and CD-ROM.
It focuses on Middle School, High School, and college
students. Probably a great source for home
schooling parents or kids needing extra tutoring. |
  |
Tabasco Country Store - Do you need a
gallon jug of Tabasco? Or perhaps chili pepper
Christmas lights? Or the classic camouflage
Tabasco bottle holster. |
 |
Target - Normally I hate department stores.
But as hard as I try, I just like shopping at target.
Honestly, I haven't shopped at their website yet, but I
probably will soon. The site is very easy to
navigate and find stuff. |
 |
Tech Depot - This new online store is a branch of
Office Depot. I like them because they carry lots
of components. My biggest frustration with Circuit
City or Best Buy is that they carry lots of big stuff,
but no variety of accessories. (Best Buy had
one USB cable, 10-ft. for $29.95. Tech Depot has
12, different lengths, starting at $4.95.) |
  |
Time
Life Music and Video - From nostalgic collections of
music you danced to at your prom to uncut TV shows you
never thought would make it to DVD, check out Time
Life’s Music and Video products |
 |
Tiny
Monkey Cards - A unique card store. If you are sick of getting the
same cards for people year after year, run away from Hallmark and visit here. |
  |
Uncommon Goods - This online store is truly unique.
Over 80% of the things I saw I'd never heard of before.
Yet almost everything is actually purchase-able.
It's wacky but not stupid stuff. |
  |
Wal-Mart - They have probably the best website of
any of the major bricks and mortar retailers. Sam
Walton would be proud. |
  |
Wine.com - Stop whining, and have a drink. |
  |
Wine Messenger - A wine delivery store that features
wines from smaller growers. |
| |
|
| |
Software |
 |
Adobe - Makers of
PhotoShop among others. This seems to be the only
non-games company to successfully compete with
Microsoft. If you are a designer for web or print, their
products are the industry standards. |
 |
Adobe Reader - A free reader to read PDF files. |
 |
Corel - For those who want to avoid giving Bill
Gates any more money,
WordPerfect Office Suite by Corel is a decent
alternative. |
 |
Microsoft - I
hate to admit it, but Microsoft has one of the better
websites to support their software. I've given Bill lots
of money over the years, and the reality is, outside of
Windows '98 and Internet Explorer, their stuff doesn't
suck. |
| |
|
| |
Sports |
 |
American
Wheelchair Bowling Association - The official web site of the AWBA. It
looks like the last update was in February 2003, but I think the organization is
still active. |
 |
Dallas
Cowboys - My favorite football team since about 1976. I've always
cheered for Dallas running backs, Tony Dorsett and Emmitt Smith. If you
are a Cowboys fan or simply a Cowboys' Cheerleaders fan, this is a must see
site.
|
 |
NFL
- The official site of the NFL is loaded with statistics and current
news. The only thing this site lacks, and this is huge in my opinion, is
history. The history of the NFL is rich and for statistics geeks like me,
it's sadly lacking.
|
 |
NFL
Fantasy Football - In 2003 I also used it for fantasy football. Their
fantasy football league costs $14.95. I figured it would be substantially
better than free leagues on Yahoo or elsewhere. I was wrong. The
league was good, but no better than the free leagues. I couldn't believe
how many people paid $15 and didn't participate the whole season. Of 12
teams, only eight showed up for the draft. Only four were making changes
by season's end. Update: At the end of the season, they did send a copy
of the Superbowl program to every fantasy player. Very Cool.
|
 |
Star Struck Pro Team - This online store sells lots
of sports merchandise, and their collection of Minor
League Baseball stuff is amazing. I'm a guy to
dumped Major League baseball because ticket prices are
outrageous, but Minor League ball is nearly as good,
twice as intimate, and one-fourth the price. |
 |
Super
Bowl - The only game big enough for its own website is the Super Bowl.
This year is Super Bowl XXXVIII. Hopefully, Coach Parcells will guide my
Cowboys to the big game. What NFL.com lacks in history, SuperBowl.com
makes up for. You can read detailed descriptions complete with statistics
from every Super Bowl back to 1967. |
| |
|
| |
Television |
 |
HBO - HBO is currently
the best network on television. If you take my top five
shows at any given time, usually four of them are HBO
series. |
 |
Seinfeld
- The official site for Seinfeld. There are a few
clips, sound bites, and wallpapers. For the hard core Seinfeld fan, it
leaves much to be desired. The best part was a brief synopsis of each
episode from every season. If you are like most, you started watching
Seinfeld several seasons into it. We've seen all the reruns, but not in
order. |
 |
The
West Wing - The official page of The West Wing on NBC.com. This is my
favorite show currently and the best written show on network television today. |
| |
|
| |
Travel |
 |
Cheap Tickets - I guess the name says it all. I'm
not much of an airline traveler, but my sister uses them
all the time. |
 |
National
Park Service - ParkNet is the web site for the National Park Service.
It has a wealth of information for people planning vacation, history buffs and
teachers. |
  |
Orbitz - For awhile Orbitz pop-ups were on every
site on the internet. But now they have become a pretty
big internet travel source. They handle airplane, hotel,
and cruises among others. |
 |
Thrifty - The car rental company. |
 |
US
Airways - In my one and only airplane trip, I found
this web site incredibly valuable. |
| |
|
| |
Miscellaneous - The weird, the wacky, or
just the unusual. |
 |
 Am
I Horny - A rank-'em site that finally asks a
legitimate question of its raters, Are You Horny?
Adult Content |
 |
Baby
Ink Tattoo - This chain of tattoo houses will ink anyone, however they
specialize in children. They will put real permanent tattoos on children
as young as 8 months old. |
 |
Ben
& Jerry's - The official page of the ice cream giants from
Vermont. You can learn about every flavor, and suggest your own. The
site also has a store, games and information about owning a franchise. |
 |
Blue
Mountain - This was the
original e-card company. Everything was free then, and most is now too. Send me
a Damn card! |
 |
Gastric
Bypass Surgery - This site has good factual and objective information for
people considering surgery to correct severe obesity. I don't recommend
this surgery to anyone, those considering it should be well informed. |
 |
NFO
Worldgroup - The world's largest market research firm has its own online
division for consumer research. This legitimate research firm does
research primarily for food and household goods products. If you enjoy
giving your opinion and actually making an impact on decisions real companies
make, you can sign up to participate. |
 |
Nude
Cards - You can send sexually explicit e-cards.
Adult Content |
  |
U.S. Search - Searches public records, conducts criminal
background checks, property value searches and a wide
variety of useful searches. My wife uses them
frequently when looking for birth parents of adopted
children. |
  |
Western Union - Yes, it is possible to send money to
people who don't have a PayPal account. Send me
some cash! You can also send telegrams when you
have an urgent or official message. |
|
|
| |
Webmasters - Affiliate Programs |
 |
Amazon
- One of the original, and still best affiliate programs
on the net. You earn 5-15% on every purchase. You can link your
readers directly to individual products, categories, or simply the main
page. You earn the most from individual product links for books, CDs,
DVDs, and video games. |
 |
Mr.
Skin - The site does have a membership
fee of $29.95 and a 3-day preview for $4.95. Webmasters get 60% commission.
I'm not currently a member of this affiliate program. |
 |
LinkShare
- The Link Share Network is a large affiliate program network. You sign up
with them, then they connect you to many different companies who use pay for
performance programs. Many of the links in my shopping area originated
here. |
 |
NFO
Worldgroup - This legitimate consumer research firm does research primarily
for food and household goods products. If you enjoy giving your opinion
and actually making an impact on decisions real companies make, you can sign up
to participate. Web masters can earn $1.50 per referral. |
| |
|
