Mytwinn.com - Custom Doll Maker Website I first saw My Twinn about three years ago, shortly after my twins were born. One of our relatives had a paper catalog, and were convinced Kristen and I should order another set of twins, this time of the plastic variety. I thought it was a really cute idea, but my kids were too little, and we were pretty broke. Look-a-like dolls starting at $120.00 weren't high on my priority list.
Here's how it works. You choose from 8 eye colors, 4 skin tones, and 15 different faces. At first it didn't seem like many customizable options, but just those three elements can be combined to create 480 different combinations. After that you choose hair color, length and style. With the basic options, you can actually create over 21,000 different dolls. After seeing these, I see how Cabbage Patch Dolls were so successful at making mass produced, yet unique dolls. And for those of you concerned about the body image that Barbie Dolls portray, now your little girl can become the model. If you have an artistic eye, you certainly can create a doll that looks like your child. On the other hand, if you are like me, you probably want to leave it to the professionals. For between $10 and $35, you can have the artists that run the site select the face, style and cut the hair, and even paint the face to look more like a photo you supply. As any girly girl will tell you, the best part comes last. You can buy additional doll clothing starting at about $6.00, but you can also purchase matching outfits for a real girl starting at about $14.00. (Your basic doll comes with one outfit.) They tell you that the dolls are terrific play things, but for a doll that runs between $120 and $155, few people will let their kids play with them. One neat feature, I think, is that the dolls have 18 poseable joints. It makes them easy to display in interesting poses. The dolls stand 23 inches tall. While expensive, I've seen Madame Alexander dolls of that height which sell for much higher prices, and these are certainly as unique if not collectible. If I were to purchase the doll, I'd probably display it in a similar pose to one my daughter would strike. She may be laying on her belly with feet in the air and resting on her elbows. If I wanted to get very realistic, I'd put the doll in front of a television watching a Dora the Explorer video. Ainsley's third birthday is in May. She loves dolls, so I might just get her if an extravagant gift. Papa is allowed to spoil her once in a while, it's in my contract. As always, when I review one of a sponsor's websites, here's my full disclosure. If you click the banner ad on this page, then purchase anything from this website within 24 hours, SunFyre earns approximately 5%. If you buy a typical doll, between $6 and $8 will go to support SunFyre. While I write reviews of potential sponsors, I'll never post advertising for companies that offer crap. It's my personal no-crap guarantee! |
